Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10s

Three Look Collection - for the Garb-age Runway

This collection of mainly filet crochet pieces is inspired by American folk art and visual storytelling. In the spirit of recycling for this sustainable runway, I integrated animal motifs and recycled materials into my designs.

Look 1: Horse-Girl Dress

Model: Felicity Low

Filet crochet & thrift upcycle

Babydoll dress made from an up-cycled men’s shirt and a filet crocheted yoke with a galloping horse motif. By repurposing a second-hand piece of clothing into something new, the “Horse-Girl Dress” is meant to honor circularity in fashion.

Look 2: Hop Top

Model: Paloma Jackson Kimball

Filet crochet

Filet crocheted tank top with a hopping rabbit sequence and an open back detail. In the spirit of Garb’s sustainable runway, the rabbit is a reminder of how urgent the climate crisis is. Snowshoe hares and other rabbits face significant threats as they experience phenological mismatches with warming temperatures.

Look 3: A Festive Poncho and a Festive Hat!

Crocheted mesh hat and poncho set with sequins made from recycled and sanded aluminum cans. About a dozen cans of Arizona Tea are crocheted into this look to promote the idea that sustainability and recycling are chic — ideas central to the runway’s theme and Garb’s overall ethos.
